Deck Construction Options

I purchased a home in the fall, so of course I needed install a deck to go with it.  We never spent time outdoors, but now we are and we want a platform we can stand on to look at the scenery toward the back of our property.  When I started checking into decks, I was overwhelmed because there are so many types to choose from like wood, aluminum, laminate, and composite.  I opted for a wooden deck.  Still, there were a myriad of kinds of woods, so it was time to do some research.  Cedar smells heavenly and it repels bugs too.  Redwood is another attractive wood that looks awesome and withstands bad weather.  It is naturally rot and insect resistant as well.  There are downsides to each of them as deck materials though.  They are more expensive than some woods, like pressure-treated wood.  Then there are the higher-priced woods such as mahogany and walnut, but the price was awfully expensive for deck construction.  After deciding on redwood decking, I called a local deck builder from and requested an estimate for cedar deck installation in my backyard. I chose cedar decking over redwood because of the smell and the color. Redwood boards are too dark, so it doesn’t match with the color of my home. Cedar decks are generally lighter, so it seemed like a better fit. After the deck in installed, Albany Deck Builders will stop back over to seal the boards and stain them.

Hood cleaning company Queens NY

The #1 restaurant in Queens is Sac’s Place, located in Astora. This family-run Italian restaurant is the perfect cheap, first date spot. It’s got great food like crispy pizza and pasta, and the setting is very laid back. They have an array of Italian food, pastas, fish, soups, and salads, so there is sure to be something for everyone. The meal we highly recommend is the chicken parmigiana, which was thoroughly amazing. In addition to being a sit-down restaurant, they also offer delivery and catering options. Their family is from the Abruzzo region of Italy, and they bring tradition to Astoria with home cooked meals and only the freshest ingredients.

Things to Consider When Buying Your First Horse Trailer

There are many different horse trailers out there, so it’s overwhelming to choose one.  Should you get the open trailer or the closed one?  Should it be a goose-neck trailer?  Does the box have enough ventilation for the horses to be comfortable?  These are all important questions that you need an answer to before you pick one.

Fit the Trailer to Your Horses

The first thing to think about when you’re looking for a trailer is the size.  Ideally, you should fit the trailer to your horses, instead of vice versa.  Consider the height and weight of your horses.  Can they stand up comfortably without touching the roof?  Can the material the trailer is made from support their weight?  You want a trailer that has about a foot of clearance overhead, minor clearance on the side so the horses don’t move around and get injured, and enough weight capacity for double what you think you’ll need.  It’s always better to be safe than sorry.  We make custom trailers to fit your horses’ specifications, but you can check each of our new and used units as well to see if they match.

Ventilation Considerations

Some horse trailers are made from aluminum.  However, basic aluminum conducts heat very well, so internal temperatures can be uncomfortably high for the horses.  One unique solution to consider is going for a custom horse trailer with a fiberglass coating.  4 Star aluminum horse trailers are a good baseline, so add fiberglass on the roof or even around the entire shell to deflect some of the sunlight.  This will keep the inside temperature much cooler, which your horses will appreciate.

Manger vs Walk Through Trailers

Walk-through style horse trailers are a better investment because they’re safer.  You can easily walk the horse to the front of the trailer and step out without a problem.  Manger-style trailers could trap you in the front of the trailer with the horses, and you risk serious injury.  Your safety and the safety of the horses is our top priority, so be sure to order the correct style.

New Horse Trailers vs Used Horse Trailers

If you have the money, get the new trailer.  They last for more than a decade and newer versions have improved safety features that make the environment better for you and your horses.  Don’t worry about not knowing all the different features of each.  You tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll guide you through the key elements in order so you can make the right decision for you.

If money is a concern, buy a used horse trailer instead.  You won’t pay nearly as much money and you can test out different types to see if it’s a good fit for your situation. The best option is for you to take one for a test drive.  We allow you to hook up a trailer to your vehicle and take one of our representatives for a ride around town to see how it handles.  You’ll have about a half hour with it to see if it’s a good fit.  If not, no worries.
